North Bay Painting Services stains residential decks, cottage decks, railings, and gazebos across North Bay, from cedar lakefront decks on Lakeshore Drive and Trout Lake to pressure-treated pine in Pinewood, Birchhaven, and Ferris. A typical 12x16 deck with railings runs $1,200 to $2,000, takes 2-3 working days, and is finished in Benjamin Moore Arborcoat. Season is May through October (Zone 4b). Free in-home consult across P1A, P1B, P1C. 1-year written warranty. Owned by Ahmed Khalil. Call (705) 482-1142.
Stain needs 24-48 hours above 10 Celsius with no rain. Reliable window: mid-May through early October. We postpone before we compromise the finish.
Cedar decks above Lake Nipissing take more UV. West winds push afternoon sun and the lake reflects more UV up. We spec maximum-pigment Arborcoat.
East-side corridor runs 8-12 humidity points higher than the city core. We schedule shoulder weeks, extend dry time, and use mildewcide-additive Arborcoat.
Most premium North Bay homes (Lakeshore Drive lakefronts, executive builds near Nipissing University) have cedar decks. Semi-transparent shows the grain.
Subdivisions built 1985-2005 above Memorial Gardens came with pressure-treated pine. New PT needs a 4-6 month cure, then recoat every 2-4 years.
North Bay swings from -25 in February to +25 in July. Water cycles in and out of wood faster than mild climates. Maintenance recoat every 2-4 years.
Wraparounds on Lakeshore Drive and the Lake Nipissing shore. Mildewcide-additive Arborcoat.
Balusters, top caps, stair stringers. Vertical surfaces last 1.5-2x longer than the deck floor.
Every estimate includes TSP wash, scrape, sand, and one or two coats of Benjamin Moore Arborcoat. 1-year warranty.
Final number depends on the in-home consultation. No surprise charges, no upsell at the end.

Log Home Staining →Mid-May through early October. Benjamin Moore Arborcoat needs 24-48 hours above 10 Celsius with no rain. We are booked solid mid-May to late June for cottage-opening prep, then mid-August to late September for fall maintenance. October jobs are weather-dependent. We postpone before we compromise the finish.
Lakeshore cedar takes more UV than inland decks. West winds push afternoon sun and the lake reflects UV up. Semi-transparent on Lakeshore cedar can grey in 18-24 months; the same product on an inland Pinewood deck lasts 3-4 years. We spec maximum-pigment Arborcoat semi-transparent, or step up to Arborcoat solid for the longest life. Annual wash and a maintenance recoat every 2-3 years.
New PT pine needs a 4-6 month cure before first stain. After that, recoat every 2-4 years for semi-transparent and every 4-6 years for solid. Freeze-thaw drives water in and out of fibres faster than mild climates, so by year three or four you see grey patches at traffic lanes. A typical 12x16 Pinewood refresh runs $1,200-$2,000.
Trout Lake decks run 8-12 humidity points higher than the city core. We schedule shoulder weeks (late May, mid-June, early September), spec Arborcoat with a mildewcide additive, and extend dry time between coats from 12 to 24-36 hours, applying only when humidity is below 70 percent. Same approach for Mattawa River and Lake Nosbonsing decks.
Yes. Mixed-substrate decks are common when a cedar gazebo or upper tier was added to an original PT structure. Cedar takes TSP, brightener, light sanding. PT pine over 6 months old gets the same prep with extra attention to fuzzy fibres. For perfectly uniform colour, Arborcoat solid across both substrates is the best choice.
