North Bay Painting Services keeps your existing cabinet boxes in place, replaces the doors and drawer fronts with new MDF or solid wood (built and sprayed in our shop with Renner or Envirolak), wraps the visible face frames and end panels in matching veneer or rigid skin, upgrades hinges to soft-close, and refits hardware. MDF or solid wood doors and drawer fronts CNC-cut, sanded, and prepped to match your opening dimensions exactly.

04

In-shop spray finish

Doors sprayed with Renner or Envirolak in our shop spray booth. Hardener-additive system — same as kitchen factories.

Old doors removed

Existing doors, drawer fronts, hinges, and hardware removed. Boxes stay in place. No demo. No plumbing. No electrical.

Who refacing fits

The kitchens refacing was built for.

Refacing is the right tier when the boxes are sound but the front of the kitchen is dated, mismatched, or just tired.

Sound boxes, dated doors

1990s oak cabinets where the boxes are still rock-solid but the raised-panel doors look stuck in time.

"New kitchen look" without the demo

Homeowners who want a brand new kitchen face but don't want to live without a kitchen for two months.

Landlords + flippers

Rental and flip kitchens where refacing delivers a brand-new look at half the price of a tear-out renovation.

Condo owners with fixed layouts

Condo kitchens where you can't move plumbing or change the footprint — refacing is the only renovation-grade option.

Laminate + thermofoil kitchens

Boxes that paint can't bond to long-term. Refacing wraps a fresh skin over the laminate so the substrate is irrelevant.

Mismatched cabinets

Kitchens where additions or repairs left you with three different door styles. Refacing makes everything uniform.

Two-tone refacing

New shaker doors on uppers in white, slab doors on lowers in navy. Two door styles, two finishes, one project.

Cottage kitchens

Lake Nipissing, Trout Lake, Mattawa River cottages — refacing is faster than ordering custom replacement cabinets.

Transparent pricing

Real refacing ranges. Door count and door style drive the number.

Every estimate is free and on-site. We measure every opening, count every drawer, and walk you through door style and hardware options before quoting.

Solid wood doors, complex profiles, and high-end hardware sit at the upper end. Refacing typically lands at 50–60% of a full kitchen replacement.

Cabinet coatings

Renner and Envirolak. The systems that hold up.

The new doors get sprayed in our shop with the same factory-grade coating systems used in high-end kitchen factories. Retail-grade paint can't survive a kitchen long-term — we use industrial.

Renner
Italian-made conversion varnish

Renner is an industrial cabinet coating system used in high-end kitchen factories worldwide. The conversion varnish uses a hardener catalyst that cross-links the topcoat into a finish nearly as hard as a factory-finished door. We spray the new MDF or solid wood doors with Renner in our shop booth, which delivers a factory-flat finish on the very first piece you see when you walk into your kitchen.

  • Conversion varnish — hardener-additive chemistry, factory-grade durability
  • Pre-catalyzed lacquer — fast cure, sprayed in 8 to 12 mil builds
  • Excellent chemical resistance — kitchen grease, cleaners, food acids
  • Smooth sprayed finish — feels like factory melamine, no brush marks
Envirolak
Canadian water-based system

Envirolak is a Canadian-made water-based conversion coating with hardener — a furniture-grade alternative to solvent-based lacquer. Low odour, fast cure, and an excellent match for the face-frame skin and visible end panels we apply on-site since you can stay in the home while it cures. We use Envirolak on both the new shop-sprayed doors and on-site touch-ins so the entire kitchen reads as one continuous finish.

  • Water-based with catalyst — adds hardener for cabinet-grade durability
  • Low VOC, low odour — ideal for stay-in-home projects, kids, pets
  • Block-resistant — won't stick when soft-close doors close after dry time
  • Range of sheens — flat, matte, satin, semi-gloss available

"
Refaced our 1990s oak kitchen — 24 doors swapped for white shaker MDF, sprayed with Renner. The new face-frame skin made the box ends disappear. Looks like a $50K renovation. Total cost was $11,800 and we kept using the kitchen the whole time.

How much does cabinet refacing cost in North Bay?

Cabinet refacing in North Bay typically ranges from $4,800 to $14,500 depending on door count, door style, substrate, and hardware tier. A small kitchen with 10 to 15 doors runs $4,800 to $7,500. A medium kitchen with 16 to 25 doors runs $7,500 to $11,000. A large kitchen with 26+ doors runs $11,000 to $14,500. Pricing includes new MDF or solid wood doors and drawer fronts, face-frame veneer or rigid skin on the visible box ends, soft-close hinges, and a hardware upgrade. Doors are built to size and sprayed in our shop with Renner or Envirolak before installation. Refacing typically lands at 50–60% of a full kitchen replacement and includes a 1-year written warranty on workmanship.

Refacing vs painting vs replacing — which is right for me?

Cabinet painting is the cheapest option ($1,800 to $5,500) — keep your existing doors, scuff-sand, and spray a new colour. Cabinet refacing ($4,800 to $14,500) keeps your boxes but installs brand-new doors and drawer fronts plus a face-frame skin, so the kitchen looks like a full reno from the front. Full kitchen replacement ($25,000 to $60,000+) tears out the boxes too — required only if the boxes are rotted, water-damaged, or you're changing the layout. If your boxes are structurally sound and you want the look of a new kitchen without the demolition, plumbing, and electrical work of a tear-out, refacing is the right tier. See the comparison table above for the side-by-side.

How long does cabinet refacing take?

Cabinet refacing in North Bay typically takes 1 to 2 weeks from on-site to final reinstall — significantly faster than the 6+ weeks of a full kitchen replacement. Week 1 is in-shop: we measure on day 1, then build and spray the new doors and drawer fronts with Renner or Envirolak while you keep cooking with your existing doors. Week 2 is on-site: we remove the old doors and drawers, apply the matching face-frame veneer or rigid skin to the visible box ends, install new soft-close hinges, hang the new doors, and refit hardware. Most clients keep using their kitchen the entire time except for one to two days during the on-site swap.

Can you reface laminate or thermofoil boxes?

Yes. Cabinet refacing is well-suited to laminate, thermofoil, and melamine boxes because the visible surfaces all get a new skin anyway. We measure the existing box openings, build new MDF or solid wood doors and drawer fronts to match, and apply a matching rigid thermofoil skin or paintable veneer to the face frames and visible end panels. The new skin is then either pre-finished to match the new door colour or sprayed on-site with Envirolak so the whole kitchen reads as one continuous finish. The original laminate underneath stays put — we never strip it, and we never try to paint laminate where it shows.

What's the warranty on cabinet refacing?

Every cabinet refacing project from North Bay Painting Services includes a 1-year written workmanship warranty. If the new doors warp, the face-frame skin lifts, the hinges fail, or the Renner or Envirolak finish chips or peels under normal residential use within twelve months, we come back and fix it at no charge. The warranty covers our workmanship and the finish we apply. Door slabs and hardware also carry their respective manufacturer warranties on top of ours. The warranty is signed and handed over by Ahmed Khalil on the day of final reinstall.
