Cost factors

What moves the price up or down

Every cost page below has its own scenario table. Across all services, six universal factors do most of the work in deciding where your number lands.

Project size

Square footage, room count, door count, or linear feet of fence and railing. The single biggest input on every quote.

Prep required

Drywall patching, caulking, peeling-paint scraping, sanding, skim coats, wallpaper removal, or asbestos testing on pre-1990 popcorn ceilings.

Paint quality tier

Benjamin Moore Regal vs. Aura on walls, Dulux Diamond on high-traffic trim, Renner 2K on cabinets, Arborcoat on decks. Better coatings cost more and last longer.

Access and height

Two-storey exteriors, vaulted ceilings, log home gables, and steep cottage roofs need scaffolding, lifts, or rope work - that adds setup time and risk.

Season and timing

Exterior and deck work is locked to a late-May to mid-September weather window in Nipissing. Booking in advance saves money; rush jobs cost more.

Occupied vs. vacant

Vacant homes paint faster - no furniture moving, masking, or daily dust control. Occupied homes need more protection and slower phasing.

No surprises

What's always included in every NBPS quote

Every quote lists exactly the same line items, regardless of project size. If you don't see something on your written estimate, it isn't in the price - ask before you sign.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How does North Bay Painting Services price a painting project?

Every quote is fixed-price, not hourly. After your free on-site estimate we email a written PDF quote that lists each room or surface, the prep included, the brand and product going on, the number of coats, and the dollar amount for that line item. There are no surprise hourly add-ons. The price you sign for is the price you pay, unless you ask us to add scope partway through the job.

Are your published price ranges fixed or do they vary by project?

The ranges on this site are based on real projects we have done across the North Bay area. They are honest ballparks to help you budget. Your actual fixed-price quote depends on the size of the space, surface condition, prep needed, the product you choose, and access. Once we walk the job with you, the number we email you is locked in. It does not move unless you change the scope.

Do you charge for estimates and consultations?

No. On-site estimates are free across our entire 45-mile radius from North Bay. We come out, measure the work, ask about colour and finish preferences, and email a written line-item quote within one business day. There is no charge, no obligation, and no high-pressure sales call afterwards. If our number is not right for your budget, just tell us and we will move on.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept e-transfer, cheque, cash, and credit card. Most clients pay by e-transfer because it is fastest. For most residential jobs we ask for a deposit to hold your spot on the schedule and book your materials, then the balance is due on completion once you have walked the work with us and signed off. For larger commercial projects we set up a milestone payment schedule in the contract.

Why is there a price range instead of one fixed price for each service?

Because no two paint jobs are the same. A small bedroom with smooth walls is not the same job as a high-ceiling living room with cracks to patch. A 1,200 sq ft bungalow is not the same as a 3,000 sq ft two-storey. The range tells you what most of our jobs in that category fall into. The fixed-price quote we email you after the on-site estimate is the actual number for your specific project.
