What makes painting in South River different.

Lake Bernard and Eagle Lake cottage market
A meaningful share of South River-area work is cottage staining and exterior repaints on Lake Bernard and Eagle Lake - log walls, cedar siding, board-and-batten cladding, decks, docks, boathouses, and outbuildings. Lakeside south-facing exposures on both lakes punish clear stains, so we spec mildewcide-treated semi-transparent or solid Benjamin Moore Arborcoat instead of clear, back-brushed for full penetration on every surface. Many of these properties are owned by absentee owners who only get up a few weekends a year - for those jobs we act as a single point of contact, send daily photo updates, work from a lockbox, and time the work around your shoulder-season visits.
Algonquin Park gateway: lodges, cabins, log structures
South River is a recognized gateway community to the western fringe of Algonquin Provincial Park, which means the surrounding bush is full of hunting lodges, fishing camps, log cabins, and rural outbuildings. We've stained, sealed, and refinished all of them. For log structures we use Benjamin Moore Arborcoat solid or semi-transparent stain, media-blast or hand-strip failed previous coatings, repair chinking, and back-brush every coat for full penetration. Properties with shoulder-season-only access get planned around - write the spec in spring, deliver in late summer or early fall, document with daily photos.
Heritage village core homes
The village of South River grew up around the historic CN train station and the South River itself, and the residential core has older brick and clapboard homes built up from the early 1900s onward, many with original plaster interiors and stucco accents. On any home built before 1990 we run a quick lead-paint test before sanding or scraping; if it comes back positive, we shift to wet-scrape and HEPA-vacuum protocols and document the work. We also keep a period-correct heritage palette on hand - historic creams, deep hunter greens, oxblood reds, and barn-board browns - so a repaint reads true to the era.

South River sits roughly 60 km south of North Bay along Highway 11 - about a 55-minute drive - at the southern edge of our 45-mile service radius. We absorb the travel by batching Trout Creek, Powassan, and South River jobs onto the same Highway 11 corridor route in the same week, which means our standard labour rates apply with no travel surcharge, no fuel fee, and no inflated minimum job size. We start booking the spring window in late February to lock in cottage owners before the high-demand May-to-July slot fills up.
